How much of my gift or investment goes to the project I select?

100% of your gift or investment goes to the projects you choose. UEnd raises our operating funds separately and directs 100% of investments to the organizations who implement projects. Although these organizations may use some of your investment to cover their overheads, this percentage is reported on DonorTrust.

Is UEnd a Registered Charity?
Yes! We are registered in Canada. We are currently incorporated in the USA, and are waiting for our final approval on charitable status, which will happen sometime in 2011.

Is UEnd a religious organization?
No. UEnd is not affiliated with any religion or religious organization. We are faith-neutral.

Why is the organization named “UEnd”?
UEnd is named for the tools that we provide for the everyday person to change the world as in u, end, poverty.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Currently we accept credit card payment over the internet. We have plans to expand accepted methods of payment.

When can I invest?
You can give a gift or invest anytime, when ever you want to raise funds for poverty ending projects or want to buy a gift for someone.

When does UEnd distribute the funds raised to the projects?
UEnd raises money year round for projects that will begin during the following year. During that time it will be held in our account where it can gain interest. UEnd will do two things with that interest revenue: fund our operations and top-up other projects that need funding to get started.

How does UEnd pay for its operations and overhead?
In the start-up phase, our costs are covered by large donors that explicitly want to fund overhead and operations.

Who does UEnd give the funds to?
We partner with organizations that work with the poorest of the poor, participate in integrated community development, and who can sufficiently report on the progress and impact of their work on DonorTrust.

I know an organization that might be a good fit for UEnd’s site. What are your selection criteria?
You can find our selection criteria by clicking here.

What are the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's)?
The Millennium Development Goals are:

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education

How is UEnd different?

  1. DonorTrust Technology: This technology provides a greater connection to the developing world, while creating increased organizational transparency and reduced overhead.
  2. The Holiday Connection: Generosity and giving defines this time of year. We have the opportunity to refocus that generosity toward the global movement of ending extreme poverty.
  3. Choice: Gift recipients choose which projects to allocate their gift to.
  4. Transparent: All users can track projects from start to finish in an easy-to-use interface.
  5. 100% Guarantee: 100% of your investments go to the projects you choose.
  6. Integrated Community Development: This development model combines locally-led interventions in agriculture, health, education, economy, and rural infrastructure to ensure that people are freed from extreme poverty in a lasting and sustainable way. Learn more about the model at http://www.millenniumpromise.org and the results at http://www.earthinstitute.columbia.edu/mvp/.

Can I purchase DonorTrust for my non-profit organization?
DonorTrust, the technology that facilitates a new way of giving is open-source and available to other organizations. Go to www.donortrust.org for more information. Please support UEnd’s development costs for DonorTrust by investing in us.

When did UEnd launch DonorTrust?
We launched DonorTrust on Monday, November 5th, 2007 at 2:30pm MST in Calgary, Alberta.

I would love to give a gift or invest in projects on UEnd’s site, but I do not have a credit card; do you take other payment options?
Currently, UEnd only accepts credit card payments through our website.
In the event that you want to contribute to UEnd’s Operational Funds, you can send a check to: UEnd, #200, 5716 First Street SE, Calgary, AB T2H1H8, Canada

What happens if you don’t raise enough money for a particular project?
UEnd is still starting up, so we have been open with partners about the fact that we cannot guarantee how much funding they will get through our site. Our partners will continue to raise money for their projects through their already established means. All the money raised on the UEnd site will always go to the projects that people designated their investment towards.

How does the technology create increased organizational transparency and reduced overhead?
The site increases transparency in several ways:

  1. Everyday donors can see the budget and plan of projects. Plus, updates are given in blog formats. So, you can actually see how the project you invested in is going, and, once it is completed, what impact it had.
  2. The technology can help to decrease overhead by: streamlining process to be transparent, and by increasing the ability for people to give to good organizations, meaning those organizations can focus on development, not marketing.
  3. Implementing partners don’t have to use valuable resources to fundraise

I have friends or relatives that do not have email accounts. How can I give to them?
When you give a gift, put your friend or relative’s name and your own email address in the recipient information field. You will receive the email gift card with a unique pickup code. You can either print this card off and give it to them, or simply write down the unique pickup code and include it in a card of your own choosing. The recipient can then pickup the gift and use it on the website.

What happens to funds if they are never used or if someone chooses “Let UEnd decide”?
If you give someone a gift and it is not used, then both you and the recipient will receive reminder emails. If the gift is still not used, then UEnd will allocate the gift towards on of the projects on the website. UEnd also allocated “Let UEnd decide” gift to projects. We do not fund our operations using unallocated gifts.
