CAUSE Canada (www.cause.ca)

Description

CAUSE Canada is an organization focused on the implementation of responsive, integrated community development in parts of the world where international assistance programs are under-represented.

While vulnerable and marginalized people are targeted as the primary beneficiaries of community development projects, CAUSE encourages participation and full ownership of projects by those receiving assistance.
CAUSE believes in the importance of partnering with pre-existing civil society groups from the developing world in an effort to deliver effective, fiscally accountable and sustainable assistance programs.

In order to address the alarming trend of urban migration in the developing world, CAUSE makes long-term commitments to implement projects in rural areas.

Recognizing that a healthy environment is a crucial element in the building of a just and sustainable society, community development is done with an emphasis on stewardship and environmental rejuvenation.

Mission Statement

Inspired by faith in Christ and the inherent dignity of every person, CAUSE seeks to alleviate poverty and injustice through long-term partnerships that empower communities to improve their quality of life.

Philosophy of Development

CAUSE Canada sees development as a process, not an end, and believes that to develop is to become, not to have. Development, however, does not necessarily mean industrialization. Rather, CAUSE Canada subscribes to the idea that development relates to the unfolding of a people’s collective imagination in defining not only who they are, but also where they want to go.
