Project Description
THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN FULLY FUNDED! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Update from the field: June 2009
This project is now complete and 400+ students are now receiving bi-lingual education in their bright, beautiful 4 classroom primary school.
This project will build a 4-classroom primary school in a subsistence farming community in Comitancillo, San Marcos, Guatemala, an area whose infrastructure and crops were severely damaged in hurricane Stan and where schools have yet to be rebuilt. The school will allow, in its first year, for 360 children to resume schooling locally, will serve as a community resource and will encourage community participation as community members will be involved in its construction.

Project Update: Post Hurricane School Construction, Comitancillo, Guatemala
As construction began on this school project, our partner organization encountered a few issues including increased building costs and extra work necessary to ensure a secure and solid site – namely the building of a retaining wall, as the school was built on a hillside. Amendments to the project plan were made to remain in budget: a 3 room school house was completed instead of a 4- room (as a 4th room would exceed the project budget) and desks and chairs were purchased for this school and other 3 schools in the region.
